Hi everyone! I hope you’ve enjoyed the blurb teaser for The Day to Remember!

For those that follow me on my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jessicawoodauthor), then you may know that I’m apart of an anthology of short stories with four other great authors. The anthology is called Summer Fling, and my short story is called “Love Across the Atlantic.” Here’s our anthology book cover and below is a little TEASER. Enjoy! 😀

Chapter 1

From the corner of my eyes, I saw him again. He was across the room talking to a group of girls who all seem to hang on his every word. Even in this packed house party, he seemed to catch my attention. In fact, since I arrived at the post-finals fraternity party half an hour ago, I could not help but glance over at him every chance I got. And each I time I did, I felt anxious excitement rush through me.

“So John then said he’d had to go to the library to study for his last final, and I haven’t heard from him since. Can you believe that?” Julie asked.

“Oh, but all the finals ended two days ago,” I replied. My mind wasn’t really in the conversation.

“Exactly! What an ass, right?”

Before I responded, I snuck another peek over at his direction. This time, he looked up from his conversation with the girls and looked directly at me. My breath caught when he smiled at me and winked. He did not just wink at me, did he?

“Alex? Allllex,” I heard Julie say.

“Oh, sorry, what did you say?” I replied, trying to regain my composure.

“Did you want another rum and coke?” Julie asked.

“Oh. Right. Sure.”

“His name is Nathan, by the way,” Julie whispered as she leaned towards me with smirk.

“Oh.” She had caught me by surprise. Was my interest in this guy that obvious? “What are you talking about?” I asked, trying to play dumb.

“The guy who you’ve been eyeing. The guy who just looked over at you and winked. The guy who all the girls here seem to know very little about, yet can’t resist. His name is Nathan. He’s one of the new members of the frat.”

I tried to process everything she just said. “But I wasn’t eyeing—wait, do you really think he was winking at me?” I asked, realizing how desperate I must have just sounded. Could this guy that seemed to have caught all the girls’ attention have really winked at me—at me? The mere thought that this was true made me a little lightheaded. That just doesn’t happen to me. Ever.

“Yes, I saw it too.” Julie laughed. “Now, can we go get that drink before we’re standing in a puddle of your drool?”

I laughed. “Okay. And for the record, I don’t drool.”

“Riiiight,” Julie teased.

We headed towards the kitchen and realized a small line had developed in front of the liquor bar.

“Do you want to wait in the line? We can always just get some beer from the keg,” Julie suggested.

“Sure,” I agreed as I eyed the half dozen people standing in line.

“Hey ladies, do you guys need a drink?” asked a man’s voice from behind us.

I turned around and found myself face-to-face and inches away from Nathan. Our eyes met and he gave me a dazzling smile.

“Hi,” I said breathlessly. “Uh—” I was at a loss for words.

“We’d love some,” Julie chimed in, and I looked over at her and gave her a Thanks, I owe you look.

“Well,” Nathan said in a whisper as he leaned close enough towards me that I could smell the intoxicating scent of his cologne, “I shouldn’t be doing this, but you’re just too beautiful to have to wait in line.” He then winked at me and put his arms around me as he led Julie and me to the front of the line. “What would you girls like to have?”

“Two rum and cokes,” Julie said as I felt her nudge me with her elbow.

“Coming right up,” Nathan said as he went to make us the drinks.

“Alex, he’s totally into you. I’ll leave you two alone. Have fun tonight, and don’t forget,” she paused.

“What?”

“Use protection,” she laughed.

I laughed, and couldn’t help but feel excited for tonight.

“Okay, call me in the morning. I want to hear all the juicy details.” Julie gave me a quick hug, and then she was gone.
